Typical Verso

Stereoviews of E.& H. T. Anthony and Company

Founded in 1862, E. & H. T. Anthony was one of the largest and most important photographic
image suppliers and equipment manufacturers in America.  In 1901 Anthony merged
with the Scoville Co. to form ANSCO, which, in 1928 joined with the German company, Agfa.
Ansco cameras were still manufactured up until 1990.

The stereoviews presented here were published in c. 1865 by E. & H. T. Anthony, but,
as is quite typical, the actual photographer is anonymous.  These cards bear the printed
and glued-on label on the back and several of the cards bear either a full revenue
stamp
(ST EA955), partial revenue stamp (ST EA954), or the mark of a revenue stamp
having been removed
(ST EA953).  These date to a 2 year window
(September 01, 1864 - August 01, 1866) during which time such stamps
were required on certain luxury items to raise funds for the Civil War.
The cards measure 3 1/2 x 6 5/8 inches, and are original, vintage cards in every way .
All are albumen prints.
